A Gift in Your Will
A legacy of hope
Throughout our lives, we leave our mark in countless ways.
In the love we share with our family and whānau.
In the friendships we nurture. In the communities we help build and strengthen.
In the kindness and support we show others and also receive.
For some, that legacy continues through a gift in their Will.
After providing for those you love, you may wish to leave a gift to a cause or organisation that reflects the values you hold most dearly.
By choosing to leave a gift to the Ovarian Cancer Foundation New Zealand, your compassion can continue changing lives for generations to come.
Your legacy will help create a future where more women are diagnosed earlier, have access to better treatments, receive compassionate support, and benefit from research that brings us closer to tomorrow’s cure.
Your legacy could help:
- Fund transformational ovarian cancer research that improves treatments and moves us closer to a cure.
- Ensure women and whānau receive compassionate support throughout every stage of their ovarian cancer journey.
- Raise awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms, helping more women receive an earlier diagnosis.
- Advocate for equitable access to diagnostics, medicines and healthcare, so every woman has the opportunity to receive the care she deserves.
Because of your generosity, hope can live on.

A legacy of caring
Shirley and Wyn’s Story
When Wyn’s dear friend Shirley passed away from ovarian cancer, she had the privilege of helping carry out Shirley’s final wishes, including her generous gift to the Ovarian Cancer Foundation New Zealand.
For Wyn, Shirley’s decision reflected the woman she had always been: someone who cared deeply about helping others.
Today, Wyn hopes Shirley’s legacy will help create a future where more women receive an earlier diagnosis, better treatment options, and compassionate support throughout their ovarian cancer journey;
“We are women, and we need to take care of each other. Leaving a gift in your Will is a wonderful opportunity to drive change. If you’re in a position to leave a bequest, why wouldn’t you? It’s as simple as that.”
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I don’t have a Will?
If you die without making a Will, you will be classed as dying ‘intestate’ and this could result in your estate not going where you would have wished.
If you have no family members left to inherit, the entire estate will pass to the Government.
Can I say how I would like my gift to be used?
Where possible, we encourage gifts to be left for general purposes. This gives the Ovarian Cancer Foundation New Zealand the flexibility to direct your gift to where it can make the greatest difference at the time, whether that’s funding transformational research, raising awareness, advocating for better outcomes, or providing support for women and whānau.
What type of gift can I leave?
There are several ways you may choose to leave a gift.
Residual gift
A percentage of your estate after other gifts and expenses have been distributed.
Pecuniary gift
A fixed sum of money.
Specific gift
A particular item, property, shares, or asset.
I've already made a Will, do I need to make a new one?
Your Will records your wishes at a particular point in time.
It is advisable to regularly review your Will as your circumstances change so that it accurately reflects your current wishes.
Can my gift be kept confidential?
Absolutely. Your privacy is extremely important to us.
Any information you share with the Ovarian Cancer Foundation New Zealand about your intentions to leave a gift in your Will will be treated with care and confidentiality.
There is also no obligation to tell us if you have included OCFNZ in your Will. However, if you do choose to let us know, it gives us the opportunity to thank you personally and, if you wish, keep you connected with the impact your future gift will help make.
We will always respect your wishes regarding how, or whether, your legacy intentions are acknowledged.
