Support for whānau
Online peer-support for whānau
In July 2026 we are beginning a new support service. We are offering monthly counsellor-facilitated peer-support groups in a welcoming space for adults who have loved ones facing ovarian cancer.
The groups provide a friendly, safe space for your loved ones to connect with other people, give themselves the opportunity to be supported and share their experiences.
Our whānau support groups are currently open to people 18 years and over who have someone in their life diagnosed with ovarian cancer, including spouses, partners, adult children, and other relatives.
We offer two support groups every month, each is facilitated by experienced counsellor Lisa Almand. Sessions will run at 10am and 7pm on the last Thursday of the month. As this is a new service, if anyone has feedback on these times, we would love to hear from you.
There is no obligation to attend every month; participants attend when they wish. For those new to support groups, you may like to drop in for a trial session to see if it works for you.
The peer-support groups run using Zoom, an online video meeting platform, so you can access support wherever you live in New Zealand. If you are new to Zoom, let us know – we have a guide to help you get started. If you do not have access to the internet, you can dial in on your phone.
If you want to learn more about the online peer-support groups for family and whānau, you can book a 10-minute call with our facilitator, Lisa. During this call, Lisa will find out more about you and will talk you through how the groups work and what you can expect so you can decide if a support group or a trial is right for you.
