OCFNZ to Increase Access To MoST Clinical Trial for Rare Ovarian Cancer

MoST clinical trial - additional funding

We are thrilled to announce that we are funding additional places for women with rare ovarian cancer to access the groundbreaking Molecular Screening and Therapeutics (MoST) trial. We’re proud to provide this support to Auckland City Hospital oncologist Dr Michelle Wilson and her team, to help women access the trial and empower clinicians to detect potentially life-changing, targeted treatments and contribute to vital research that will improve care for others.

The MoST study is an ongoing trial investigating the biomarkers in rare cancers, including rare forms of ovarian cancer. The trial is exploring whether molecular screening can guide clinical decisions to achieve better outcomes for patients. Each participant’s tumour is tested for genetic changes, and a panel of experts assesses whether any of these can be targeted and which treatment is likely to work best. It’s a shift from offering the same standard treatments to all patients, toward more personalised, precise care.

Trials such as these are essential for improving outcomes in the future, and we’re proud to help make this opportunity available to more women in Aotearoa.

As with all trials, there are strict criteria for who can take part, and the decision to take part needs to weigh up all of the benefits and potential risks. Anyone interested in taking part should speak with their Medical Oncologist to see if the trial is right for them.

If you would like to learn more about clinical trials in New Zealand and understand some of the factors that may help you decide if you would like to take part in one, please watch our Clinical Trials Webinar hosted by Dr Michelle Wilson and facilitated by OCFNZ trustee Dr Alicia Didsbury.
