Today is World Ovarian Cancer Day, a day that means something different to all of us. For some, it marks a personal diagnosis. For others, it’s a reminder of someone they love. But for all of us, it’s a day to keep raising awareness and pushing for change.
This year we want to highlight the impact of ovarian cancer, and show people why it’s so important to learn the symptoms.
Living with ovarian cancer means coping with ongoing treatments, limited access to new medicines, and the constant worry of recurrence. And for many women, even getting a diagnosis is a long and difficult journey, often taking more than a year and marked by pain, distress, and dismissal.
That’s why our message is now on billboards across the country: The symptoms are easy to overlook, but the impact isn’t. Thank you to Go Media, and creative agency Topham Guerin for your generous support in bringing this campaign to life.
The symptoms of ovarian cancer can be vague. They include bloating, feeling full quickly, abdominal or pelvic pain, needing to urinate urgently or often, changes in bowel habits and fatigue. They’re easy to overlook, but the impact of an ovarian cancer diagnosis certainly isn’t.
We are especially grateful to Erin and Leanne. Erin lives with low-grade serous ovarian cancer, she is sharing her story by sharing her scar on our billboards. Leanne is living with high-grade serous ovarian cancer, and she is sharing her scar and her ileostomy bag on social media. These incredible women are helping to bring greater visibility to a disease that too often goes unseen.
Let’s keep pushing for awareness, for faster diagnosis, and for better outcomes — until no one has to face ovarian cancer alone.
